In May 2016, the government announced changes to the tobacco laws, in efforts to achieve a smoke-free society; also, to deter young people from taking up smoking. From May 20th, 2020, menthol cigarettes and flavoured tobacco were banned. This ban comes from the European Union’s Tobacco Products Directive campaign to reduce the number of smokers in the UK and EU.
The ban is part of a four-year phasing out period, as well as reducing the number of smokers. Many surveys showed more than 80% of people who start smoking menthol and flavoured cigarettes never quit. Those who smoke menthol cigarettes account for 25% of the smoking population throughout the UK and EU. Therefore, TPD hopes that this ban may reduce the number of smokers by up to 2.4 million. Banning menthol flavours in cigarettes could cut smoking by 15% by forcing smokers to quit tobacco products entirely or switch to e-cigarettes and other nicotine vapes.
However, this ban does not extend to menthol flavoured e-cigarettes and vaping products. E-cigarettes could provide an excellent alternative to menthol cigarettes, and as you can still buy menthol flavoured e-liquids, menthol vape pods and menthol e-cigarette refills.
Why should you make the switch?
Vaping has helped an estimated 3.2 million vapers in the UK quit smoking. By heating a nicotine-based e-liquid, expert evidence published by Public Health England (PHE) shows us that e-cigarettes can be up 95% less harmful than smoking cigarettes and that vaping even has the potential to help smokers quit smoking altogether. This is backed up by research from Queen Mary’s University London that found vaping to be up to twice as effective as nicotine replacement therapies such as gum and patches. If your health is important to you and you find yourself ready to quit smoking, vaping may be the best alternative to traditional tobacco cigarettes. In recent years, e-cigarettes have become a very popular stop smoking aid in the UK. Also known as vapes or e-cigs, they’re far less harmful than cigarettes and can help you quit smoking for good.
Whatever you enjoy about smoking, e-cigarette and e-liquid manufacturers are frequently finding ways to replicate certain experiences in order to provide you with products that aim to help you stay satisfied and more importantly, stay smoke-free. The effectiveness of vaping as a smoking cessation aid means you’re more likely to cut down or stop smoking, the biggest benefit of all. Vaping is so effective in helping you quit smoking as it satisfies many of the physical habits and cravings you create without realising it during the months or years of traditional cigarette smoking.
What You Need to Start Vaping?
If vaping seems unfamiliar to you, then you might perhaps feel a little overwhelmed by the choices and you’re not sure where to start. Firstly, vaping doesn’t need to be a complicated process, and you only need a few things to get you started. Like those who might smoke rolling tobacco and use rolling papers, and filters to create cigarettes. There are one or two items that you’ll. A battery-powered device such as an e-cigarette and a nicotine-based e-liquid.
These are available in a wide range of shapes and sizes, devices are also known as e-cigarettes, vaporizers, vape pens, vape mods and vape pods. These devices will either have a built-in battery or in the instance of vape mods, will require the purchase of a separate battery.
Finding Your Favourite E-Liquid
If menthol cigarettes have been a permanent fixture in your life, e-liquids will still provide the same flavour you can enjoy by switching to vaping.
While you might like to continue with menthol flavoured nicotine products, the great thing about vaping is that you’ll be able to access a range of flavours that you might not have considered or know about.
What’s even better, if you’re thinking about using refillable tanks and bottles of e-liquid, the same menthol options are available too.
Vaping liquids are available with various levels of nicotine, and it’s even possible to buy liquids that contain no nicotine at all. Thanks to this, people who vape have the ability to control the level of nicotine they choose to take in, although this is still also dependent on how often you vape. Many people end up inhaling much more nicotine than they did when they smoked cigarettes.
There’s no evidence so far that vaping causes harm to other people around you. This is in contrast to second-hand smoke from smoking, which is known to be very harmful to health. E-liquids contain far fewer chemicals than cigarette smoke and don’t stay in the body like tar in the lungs does when you smoke. Those who switch to vaping very quickly see great health benefits, including lower blood pressure, easier breathing, improved immune function, improved sense of taste and smell and improved lung function, all within the space of around a month!
With the ban of flavoured tobacco products in the EU in May 2020, there are now even fewer options available to smokers, while there is pretty much no limit to the flavours of e-liquid available, making the experience better for both vapers and those around them!
