Mouth to lung and direct to lung vaping

Throat or Lung Hit – What’s the difference?

You probably started vaping to avoid hearing the phrase “lung” as much as possible. The chesty cough, that was the clearest indicator that it was time to quit, and it probably vanished once you decided to quit smoking. Keep reading if you’ve heard about Mouth to Lung vaping and Direct to Lung vaping but have no idea what the difference is or what they even mean.

Mouth To Lung Vaping (MTL)

Firstly, you’ll need to know the definitions of both MTL and DTL. If you’ve ever smoked, MTL vaping is a manner of inhalation you’ll be very familiar with. You inhale into the lungs with a second breath after drawing vapour into the mouth and holding it for a few seconds. Holding it in your mouth for a few seconds allows the tongue to notice the e- liquid’s luscious flavours, though you’ll probably be doing this because it feels natural if you’re vaping to quit smoking, this is considered the throat hit.

Direct To Lung Vaping (DTL)

Vaping DTL is a very different topic. It entails a slow, steady inhale, and it pretty much accomplishes what it claims within the name. DTL vaping, which focuses entirely on filling the lungs to capacity with a single inhale, this provides a more intense sensation and has become the favoured way for hardcore vapers, this is considered the lung hit.

Mouth To Lung compared to Direct to Lung Vaping

In summary, mouth to lung (MTL) and direct to lung (DTL) are the two types of vaping. Most individuals look at a device, adapt their vaping style to the method that comes with it, and then forget about it. In fact, most devices have already been tuned to the type of vaping required: for example, most vape starter kits, Pod Kits, and vape pens were created with the intention of helping smokers stop. They were created to mimic the sensation of smoking a cigarette. That’s Mouth to Lung.

A Different Outcome With Each

DTL vaping will make the experience more intense in general. DTL generates much larger clouds and more satisfaction for some, but it can also be overwhelming for a newbie due to the more powerful throat hit (which can be balanced out with suitable PG and nicotine ratios). MTL, on the other hand, produces a more subtle inhale overall. Because the vapour is kept in the mouth, and there is less of a throat hit, you’ll notice the flavour more quickly with MTL. However, because mods have advanced to the same level as e-liquids, you can stay on MTL and still enjoy the flavour benefits with a little tweaking.

PROS AND CONS OF MOUTH TO LUNG VAPING

PROS

  • Best chances of quitting smoking: MTL vaping is your greatest hope for quitting smoking because it simulates tobacco smoking with an inhaling motion that couldn’t be more identical to cigarette smoking. You get the same satisfying throat hit as DTL vaping, but it’s a little gentler, and nicotine is always an option.
  • Vaping uses less juice: While vaping is substantially less expensive than smoking 20 cigarettes a day, it is still expensive. The slower vaporisation rate is a big benefit of MTL vaping for daily vapers who are concerned about the amount of e-liquid they consume. Here, you’re inhaling more slowly. Because the juice is utilised more sparingly, you’ll have more money to save.
  • Overall better flavour: What do you chase? Flavours or clouds? which has better? This is a topic that vapers will discuss for the rest of their lives. Because MTL keeps the vapour in your mouth longer, your taste buds have more time to appreciate the flavour. You can choose a larger ratio of the PG component of the e-liquid that is the flavour carrier by utilising high PG-e-liquids. The end outcome is undoubtedly noticeable.
  • Discreet: The term “stealth vaping” exists which is funny, yet it couldn’t be more accurate. Sitting at home vaping away and blowing large clouds is fine, but you’ll be aware of your vapours if you venture outside the office or to a pub. MTL vaping results in a smaller hit. Clouds are smaller when the hits are smaller resulting in keeping your clouds low-key.

CONS

  • Overall feels weaker compared to DTL: This is a common criticism among DTL vapers who are accustomed to thick clouds. They may have quit smoking by vaping MTL-style, but they’ve since switched to DTL.
  • Can’t handle big hits: The one disadvantage of MTL vaping is that you can’t take all the air in the world and channel it into one enormous cloud. You’re taking two breaths instead of one here.
  • Shorter battery life on most MTL devices – needing to be charged more frequently.

PROS AND CONS OF DIRECT TO LUNG VAPING

PROS

  • A Satisfying Hit: A DTL hit is far more powerful than an MTL hit. DTL is a must-try for anyone looking for a throat hit that packs a punch. A Sub-Ohm tank, an RDA, and a high-VG e-liquid are the best options for this.
  • Way bigger clouds: If blowing massive clouds is important to you, DTL is the place to go. Thick clouds of vapour are guaranteed.
  • An easier draw: You’re only taking one breath here, not two. Because DTL vaping is half the work, you’ll notice a smoother draw overall.
  • Big strong hits: DTL vaping is as dedicated as it gets for large hits, with no interruption from taking one breath to hold the vapour in your mouth before inhaling into the lungs. If you want to DTL vape discreetly, use a high ohm coil, take a deep lung hit, and wait for a few seconds to let the vapour evaporate before inhaling.

CONS:

  • More effort required to avoid harsh hits: DTL vaping makes it easier to avoid harsh throat hits more than you would believe. Switch to a high VG e-liquid to lessen your PG, and maybe consider lowering your nicotine level.
  • Potential risk of cotton burning: You’ll want to keep an eye on your juice not running dry here to avoid burnt cotton. It’s referred to as keeping one eye on the tank. You’ll burn the cotton if you vape without any juice in the tank.
  • More PG and nicotine restrictions: Due to the harsher nature of DTL vaping, you may find that you have little choice but to cut your PG and nicotine levels (not for everyone).
