Vaping for Heavy Smokers

If it’s time to ditch your traditional smoking habits and switch to vaping, and eventually cut back or quit smoking. Then there’s a few things you’ll have to consider. Firstly, your nicotine requirements are higher than average you’ll need to understand the type of e-liquid that will work best for you.  The coil resistance you use and the type of technique you use to inhale will make a big difference to you vaping experience.  You’ll need the correct vaping device that delivers nicotine effectively, by giving you a good strong throat hit, a sense of satisfaction that you are familiar with.

While cessation tools like nicotine gum and patches are used as Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRT). Vaping has increasing become popular and a preferred method of NRT. If you have already tried patches and other nicotine replacement therapies but are now ready to try vaping. Read on to find out what you need to consider, helping you get the best chance of giving up smoking for good and making the switch to vaping.

Nicotine Fix

As a heavy smoker, to begin with, to start you’ll want to get the same amount of nicotine you’d get from cigarettes. By giving up tobacco and tar, as well as thousands of other chemicals, you’ll start to feel the benefits of vaping. There is a range of nicotine strengths in e-liquids to choose from and nic salts at 2% or 20mg being the highest amount and 0.6% often being the lowest. Eventually, you’ll be able to cut down nicotine intake slowly, working towards vaping nicotine-free, which is possible if you set your set goals. When starting out, try using a low powered device with a high nicotine e-liquid. You might think that the more power in your device, the more nicotine you will get from your e-liquid. That’s not necessarily the case.  Try working your way down from nic salts a small amount during the day to as close as possible 0% nicotine e-liquid.

The Throat Hit

To get a good throat hit, you usually need to use a higher resistance coil. These typically have a resistance of 1Ω or higher, although some modern devices may go a bit lower.  Many heavy smokers miss the throat hit smoking gives them when they switch to vaping. So, it’s important to choose a device that can give you a good throat hit. You don’t need a high wattage range when you are using high resistance coils. Devices with a range of 10-25 watts work perfectly too.

It’s important to use the right VG:PG ratio of 50:50,  If you find the throat hit harsh, try nicotine salts. These allow you to combine high nicotine content with a smooth sensation on the back of the throat.  Using hybrid e-liquids, this is a combination of regular (freebase) e-liquid and nicotine salts. They have a great balance between the smoothness of a nicotine salt and the harsher throat hit of a regular e-liquid. Keeping your vape device at a low wattage and use a high resistance coil too.

Airflow

For a vaping device to feel like a cigarette, it needs to have a similar tight airflow to a cigarette. Tight airflow allows the vapor to hit your palate in much the same way that cigarette smoke would.  As a heavy smoker, it’s likely that you prefer full-flavored cigarettes and crave a strong nicotine sensation. The difference in vaping devices for high-strength e-liquids will have tight airflow. It’ll have small intake vents and have a narrow mouthpiece that might resemble the shape and size of a cigarette filter. Other devices come with adjustable airflow, which allows you to choose between a lighter relaxed vape or a tighter or more restricted vape.  Starter pod systems have a pod that can be removed and rotated to switch between a tight or relaxed vape.  These types of devices allow you more controlled by having an adjustable airflow giving you a better vaping experience.

Mouth to Lung Vaping

As a heavy smoker you’ll want to stick to more preferred vaping technique. Especially, if you’re looking for an intense throat hit. That would be a Mouth to lung, which is inhaling smoke into your mouth, like a cigarette, and then drawing it in into your lungs. This technique is quite important, because you’ll know whether you get the most out of vaping, as a beginner switching from cigarettes. If you’re used to smoking 20 cigarettes a day, start at18-20mg of nicotine in your vape and slowly working your way down, ideally to 0mg. Choosing the right device for your technique is a key element when choosing your vape as a heavy smoker. Also, you need to think about whether you have the right e-liquid, as well as the VG/PG ratio.

Nicotine Salts

Commonly known as nic salts, this an ideal option and it’s tailored to heavy smokers. Nic salts increase in nicotine content, which typically features between 10mg up to 20mg. This will give a smoother texture and absorbs quicker, creating a less harsh throat hit and the required mouth to lung for heavy smokers. You need to match this with a high resistance coil above 1 Ohms. This is because you want less heat in you vape to get the right throat hit. In contrast, cloud chasers seek a ‘Sub-Ohm’ coil resistance below one Ohm to produce more clouds, thicker e-liquids to inhale with a higher ratio of VG.

Vape Devices

Pod systems are easy to use, and they are optimised for hight nicotine e-liquids. They’re small and deliver performance similar to a cigarette, also come with a chargeable battery. Vape Pens offer better battery life, vapour, and flavour.  As you’re starting on your vape journey, a smaller device than resembles a cigarette giving to the throat and nicotine hit you want. Using a device that’s not too over complicated is a good way to start.

It’s best to take your time and finding the right balance to suit your need. it’s about discovering what works for you, and it’s the ideal way to help cut back and quit smoking altogether.
